Is Instructure a tech company with its heart in learning? Or a learning company with its heart in tech?

Either way, our mission is to make software that makes people smarter. And one crucial way we accomplish that is by partnering with our 100+ like-minded (and, even better, divergently-minded) partners, who are equally committed to learning, innovation, and technology (sometimes all three). Our partners push us and we push them, keeping our foot on the innovation accelerator—from IMS to LTI to LIS and more. Together, we believe we can make integrations as easy as humanly possible and, in the process, make teaching and learning easier too.

  • August 15, 2018: Virtual Classroom – reach and engage more students! — For the last three decades the student/teacher ratio has increased by 30% - in the US there are 26.8 pupils per teacher for public secondary schools. The providers of traditional training are limited in reaching a larger number of students by their resources – mainly teachers and facilities. Blended/hybrid learning is addressing these issues by mixing learning methods that incorporate multiple teaching modals - traditional face-to-face classrooms, videoconference teaching and self-paced learning. Currently, blended learning is one of the fastest growing models in the teaching organizations – vocational training providers, K-12, universities, corporate training, etc.

And distance education enrollment has grown consistently for the last fourteen years.

  • July 19, 2018: Making Canvas the Star of the Course Evaluation Process — Course evaluations are a key component of the quality and improvement process for virtually every institution, and without a doubt, the valuable feedback that students provide instructors and administration is THE star of course evaluations.  Given the importance of student feedback, let’s take a moment to consider the “operational process” of course evaluation.  You know, the operational process where the star for so many years had been paper - paper surveys distributed to every student every term, paper surveys then collected and sent through a scanner (or manually recorded, but that’s a different story entirely), and then finally paper reports that were laboriously created and distributed to faculty and to administration every term.  While this paper operational process served a purpose, it failed in terms of being efficient and timely, and likely consumed far too many institutional resources – not to mention all those trees!

“Often partner programs are a place where good intentions go to die. But it’s clear that Instructure realized a long time ago that the ecosystem of applications around Canvas will be a large part of its success. They invest substantial time and energy making sure that quality partners get the attention and assistance they need to succeed.  It’s been a pleasure to work with them.”
